Giving: Samaritan's Purse
Samaritan's Purse is a non-denominational, evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, they have met the needs of people who are victims of war, famine, poverty and other natural disasters. All with the heart of sharing God's love to make Jesus' name great.
Source is committed to doing the same thing: giving back to make Jesus known. As we prayed about where to give our profits from the holiday season, giving towards what Samaritan's Purse is doing to help aid the refugee crisis in Europe is what we felt God was calling us towards.
The mission of Samaritan's Purse is inspired by the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37), where Jesus said “to go and do likewise.” At Samaritan's Purse, their desire is to share the hope of the gospel with hurting people who need it most.
Currently, the refugee crisis is dire with more than 500,000 refugees having arrived in Europe last year. Mainly escaping violence from Syria, but also Afghanistan, Iraq, Eritrea, Nigeria, Somalia, and Kosovo. They flee their homes seeking the safety and opportunities that Europe can provide them.
Samaritan's Purse has staff working in Greece and Croatia to help refugees. They hand out essentials like soap, food, water, and dry clothing. In Croatia they have set up several large hand-washing stations to help address the hygiene issues. They are also helping in Macedonia and have Christian partners in Serbia and Hungary.
By purchasing from Source this holiday, you were able to help us give a financial gift to this incredible organization that is helping those who are vulnerable and needy. So, thank you. While we know that this is a highly controversial subject, the one thing that we can say with certainty is that Jesus commands us to love those who are in need and to make the gospel known to all the nations. We feel that is what the people at Samaritan's Purse are doing. There are so many more ways that we as Christians can be helping in this crisis, and you can read more about Samaritan Purse's efforts on their website, here.
I urge you, please be praying for these men, women, and children. For their safety and well-being, and that they would hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and that their hearts would be changed. For the staff, that they would be able to clearly show the love of Christ through their hands and feet. And for peace in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.
Thank you for helping us give back to an organization that shares a desire for helping others and making Jesus' name known to many.
