MIAMI – Nov. 8, 2023 — Kaseya, the leading global provider of unified IT management and security software for managed service providers (MSPs), small to midsize business (SMBs) and mid-market enterprises (MMEs), released its third annual Datto Global State of the MSP: Trends and Forecasts for 2024 Report, which surveyed 1,575 MSPs worldwide about what keeps them up at night. The survey provides an in-depth look at the current state of the MSP market, demonstrating the critical role MSPs play in the overall success for small and mid-size businesses, as well as how the landscape has evolved and what the industry can expect in the coming year.

“While MSPs have long been the unsung heroes of tech, this year’s survey results clearly speak to a growing understanding of the critical role technology plays in a sustainable business,” said Holly Pateman, Kaseya’s SVP of Product Marketing. “With revenues and competition on the rise, and a focus on the need for a superior customer experience, MSPs have a front row seat to what makes their customers successful. As a result, these MSPs have a clear view into what keeps a major cornerstone of our economy – small and midsize businesses – running.”

Growth, competition and innovation in a competitive market

According to the report, the MSP industry has exploded over the last few years with major growth in 2023, despite a difficult economic climate. In North America, 68% of MSPs experienced a revenue increase, and among them, 38% saw their revenue grow by more than 10%. Likewise, the revenue increase was also significant in Europe. Nearly two-thirds (64%) of MSPs in Europe experienced year-over-year revenue growth, and among them, 37% of those experienced an increase of more than 10%.

At the same time, the survey shows that competition is stiff. More than a third (35%) of MSPs globally cite competition as the biggest challenge, up from 29% last year. While seen as a challenge, MSPs are harnessing this competition to drive innovation and are offering solutions to better meet their clients’ needs, with 91% regarding customer experience as a high or top priority.

Looking Ahead

With the IT needs of SMBs and MMEs constantly changing, the main priorities that stood out for IT professionals to keep in mind in the coming year include:

  • Embrace vendor consolidation: 74% of respondents said they prefer to use fewer vendors to meet their technology needs — up from 64% in 2022. Fewer vendors mean a streamlined supply chain, improving procurement, delivery, deployment, asset management and services.
  • Expand the service portfolio: Top services that respondents anticipate adding to their portfolios include collaboration software (27%), business intelligence or analytics software (22%), and incident response and forensics (22%).
  • Embrace cloud migration: Approximately half of the respondents report that 50% or more of their clients are shifting their workloads to the cloud. MSPs in North America anticipate the most significant shift in cloud migration in the next three years, driven by clients adopting Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and migrating databases and email servers to the cloud. Nearly half of the respondents (47%) predict that 75% to 99% of their client base will move workloads to the cloud in the next three years.
  • Address cybersecurity concerns: 28% of respondents cited their customers’ lack of concern about cyber-risks as a major cybersecurity challenge. It underscores the pressing need for MSPs to be equipped with the tools and knowledge to educate their customers effectively.

“As we head into the end of the year and the start of 2024, we can all learn from the stories, challenges and successes of the MSPs shaping the future of IT services. We hope that this report will shed light on this thriving industry that is currently experiencing more growth potential than ever before,” added Pateman.

Miami, FL – November 2, 2023 – Kaseya, the leading global provider of unified IT and security software for managed service providers (MSPs) and small to mid-size businesses (SMBs), continues its momentum after the announcement of several new capabilities at its sold-out DattoCon hosted in Miami. Kaseya rolled out Kaseya Help Desk Services, which allows the outsourcing of daily IT tickets to improve customers’ profits and reduce their technician churn.

Additionally, the company is announcing Powered Services Pro 2.0, which features a comprehensive Marketing Blueprint and automation platform for faster marketing campaign execution. Also, Vonahi Security’s flagship product, vPenTest, was awarded nine G2 Fall 2023 Badges in the Penetration Testing and System Security Categories.

“Everything we do as a company is driven by our customers’ needs and our mission to help them become more profitable,” said Kaseya CEO Fred Voccola. “We’re saving them time by automating marketing campaigns through our new Marketing Blueprint and absorbing their IT tickets through the Kaseya Service Desk™. We also continue to build out our IT Complete suites with best-in-breed technologies like Vonahi, which was recognized for its award-winning vPenTest.”

Kaseya Help Desk Services™ – Getting You Back to Business
For MSPs dealing with user interrupt requests, help is on the way! The highly anticipated Kaseya Help Desk, Kaseya’s cutting-edge, white-labeled solution tailored for MSPs is now available for purchase. Kaseya Help Desk transforms the way MSPs manage customer support, allowing them to focus on core business strategies while Kaseya handles the simple, yet time consuming end-user phone calls and email tickets. The best-in-class white-labeled services are delivered by the company’s 100-percent-in-region staff located at various Kaseya locations, including Orlando, Florida and Dundalk, Ireland. MSPs get more time to focus on their business, allowing them to scale effectively without adding headcount.

Powered Services Pro 2.0 Marketing Blueprint – We’ve Got You!
Powered Services Pro 2.0’s Marketing Blueprint offers a developed framework, roadmap and certification program, along with an automation platform to launch marketing campaigns swiftly and help MSPs acquire more customers. Competition is stiff, and it’s only going to get tougher. On average, MSPs spend up to 10 hours monthly on marketing efforts and are not seeing results. The reasons vary, from not aligning with their audiences to relying on word-of-mouth referrals that are no longer delivering. Many MSPs believe that marketing is expensive, and simply don’t have the time, or the desire, to do it.

This new offering from Powered Services breaks marketing down into three levels of learning – Master, Expert and Professional – and takes learners through the marketing basics, including SWOT analysis and competitor analysis, SEO, social media, data analytics and much more. Upon completion, participants are awarded a Certified Marketing Badge – the only one of its kind for MSPs.

Additionally, via the Automated Marketing Platform (AMP), MSPs can push a button and automatically launch a personalized email campaign, download checklists, customized e-books and infographics, create a landing page or generate social media posts. One of the big advantages of this program over others is it provides content and tools to turn MSPs into thought leaders in their community, so they become the go-to resource for their customers. MSPs can easily track their progress on a dashboard, and it will be integrated into AutoTask. The value of these services totals over $5,000, but MSPs in the program only pay $399 as part of their existing subscription.

Vonahi Security’s vPenTest Wins 9 Badges
Vonahi Security, a Kaseya company and pioneer in automating networking penetration testing, proudly took home 9 badges in the Penetration Testing and System Security categories of the G2 Fall 2023 report for its flagship product, vPenTest. The badges were awarded based on user insights of the vPenTest platform, considering factors such as ease of use, quality of support, ease of setup and overall user satisfaction.

vPenTest was recognized across multiple categories, including Best Relationship and High Performer (Americas, EMEA, Europe, Small Business, Mid-Market) for Penetration Testing and best Support and High Performer for System Security.  To view results, click here.

In addition to vPenTest’s awards, a variety of other IT Complete products were awarded badges. This included products within our Audit & Compliance, Endpoint Management, IT Operations, Networking, Security, and Unified Backup suites. To learn more, go to G2’s website here.

Miami, FL – September 12, 2023 Kaseya, the leading global provider of unified IT management and security software for managed service providers (MSPs) and small to mid-size businesses (SMBs), recently released a certification program to educate students and professionals on remote IT and security management. The Remote IT and Security Management (RITSM) certification will help learners gain all the knowledge they need to have a successful career in technology in a matter of weeks.

Jobs in technology are increasingly difficult to fill, especially for smaller companies. They don’t have the time to teach candidates how to use the necessary technology or the essential customer service skills needed for the job. RITSM covers all of these topics and more to give job seekers an advantage in the market. Regardless of where someone is in their tech career, this program can help they upskill – and they’ll receive a certificate through the program.

For beginners, the Foundations course provides a broad overview of products and supports IT and security management over 12 hours. More experienced learners can complete the 40-hour Professional program, which includes real-life simulations in demo environments in addition to more in-depth knowledge.

To roll out this program, Kaseya is working with university partners, such as Florida International University and Miami Dade College, and industry leaders like Techno Global Team. Students can get their certification as part of a course or online, using the self-led course. In the spring semester, Miami-Dade College will offer it as a “for-credit” course that counts towards students’ degree.

“Thanks to the RITSM course, job seekers are able to change their lives,” said Kaseya CEO, Fred Voccola. “Whether they never finished college, graduated recently, or are changing their career, RITSM prepares people so they can pursue a high-paying job in tech.”

Once they complete the course, individuals can access employment opportunities with Kaseya and its MSP customers. Kaseya also offers a service to find employees a match with MSPs looking to expand their workforce. Further, MSPs that are powered by Kaseya can use the RITSM course as a powerful tool for onboarding and upskilling current employees.

The current economic conditions are leading companies of all sizes to reassess their operations and business strategies to remain competitive and profitable. The key insights from this year’s survey are:

  • Impact of economic uncertainty. Businesses want to stay cost-efficient and productive, so they are looking to outsource more IT services to managed service providers (MSPs) amidst increasing economic uncertainty to optimize their capabilities and spending.
  • Essential automation and integration. Businesses are seeking to replace legacy tools with solutions that are faster and more responsive to evolving needs to stay competitive, tap into new markets and reduce operational costs. They also plan to allocate resources towards integration and automation capabilities to increase productivity and unlock growth.
  • Pressing cybersecurity concerns. Organizations are placing a strong emphasis on cybersecurity, and despite economic conditions, they are focused on acquiring talent in this area either through internal hires or outsourcing to MSPs who provide cybersecurity services.

IT professionals are overworked.

Budgets and resources may be shrinking, but workloads are not. A staggering 62% of respondents reported having to frequently work on holidays or weekends. Nearly half of them confessed to pulling an all-nighter while about 40% admitted to working 50+ hour weeks consecutively.

Let’s talk about budgets!
About 40% of respondents, around the same as last year, said their IT budgets increased. Yet, 18% of those surveyed cited a decrease in their 2023 budget – 8% more than last year. When it comes to budgets being slashed, 40% said software spending would be cut; 35% think it’s hardware spending; and 29% believe it will be training and certifications that get cut.

Achieving business growth tops the list of budget drivers, said 32% of respondents. Replacing outdated IT infrastructure was identified by 29% of respondents and security incidents or concerns by 28%.

Strengthening cybersecurity and upgrading legacy systems biggest challenges.
Relentless cybercriminals pose continuous threats leading to 40% of respondents citing cybersecurity and data protection as the foremost IT challenge in 2023. It’s tough to be efficient when an outdated technology stack gets in the way of productivity. Legacy systems hampering growth and innovation were reported as the second biggest challenge by 24% of respondents.

Improving security and increasing productivity through automation are priorities.
Businesses recognize the importance of having a strong defense against devastating cyberthreats with 45% prioritizing the improvement of IT security overall.  Automation boosts cybersecurity. By using an advanced endpoint management tool, technicians can monitor, detect and automatically resolve common security issues. Another benefit of automation is that it fuels productivity and alleviates technicians’ ever-increasing workloads.

Where will IT professionals invest next?

Not surprisingly, survey participants responded that automation and security products are the cutting-edge technologies they plan to invest in by 2024. In fact, 39% of respondents cited IT automation as technology in focus for investment, followed by 30% for email security – including phishing prevention, and 27% for endpoint detection and response (EDR). Nearly half of those surveyed – 48% – want to invest in security awareness training to empower their employees to become the strongest link to their cybersecurity strategy. Another 36% of respondents were interested in vulnerability scanning tools that detect and address weaknesses in the IT infrastructure before attackers can exploit them. Additionally, 47% of survey participants plan to add or change cybersecurity solutions this year, while 30% said backup and recovery solutions are on their radar noting the importance of a comprehensive data protection plan. About 22% of the respondents also anticipate staffing growth in cybersecurity.

MSPs stand to benefit.

SMBs are outsourcing more IT services to MSPs. According to the report, almost 80% of respondents said they outsource one or more IT services to an MSP, up from 64% in 2022.  The top three functions that are being outsourced are IT security, network monitoring and cloud infrastructure management. Other services are endpoint management, compliance reporting and onboarding/offboarding of users and devices.

Other notable findings revolved around integration – about a quarter of survey participants reported the integration of IT documentation within the endpoint management tool as most beneficial. When it comes to IT management tools, respondents listed their top five as: help desk/ticketing, endpoint management, IT documentation/knowledge management, network management/network performance monitoring and endpoint detection and response (EDR).

In summary, overworked IT professionals are investing more in automation and integrations while many are also outsourcing more to MSPs, despite economic uncertainty. Meanwhile, budgets are being allocated to strengthening cybersecurity and updating legacy systems.

Miami, FL – March 30, 2023Kaseya, the leading global provider of unified IT management and security software for managed service providers (MSPs), small to mid-size businesses (SMBs) and mid-market enterprises (MMEs), released today its 2023 MSP Benchmark Report, which surveyed more than 1,000 managed services providers (MSPs) from the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and the APAC region. The report, which surveyed both technicians and executives, provides insights into how MSPs streamline processes to provide cost-effective IT support and infrastructure management to SMBs.

The key findings centered around automation, cybersecurity and integration:

  • About 90% of respondents hailed automation as a crucial technology for their business because it improves efficiency, allows them to take on more clients and generates more revenue by automating common processes like endpoint management, monitoring, patching, ticket resolution and even cybersecurity.
  • More than half of the executive (64%) and technician (54%) respondents picked automation, including auto-remediation of tickets, as their top RMM feature.
  • In year-over-year comparison, there is 15% jump in respondents who chose cybersecurity as the top IT challenge their clients expect to face this year.
  • About 65% of respondents said most, or all, of their clients have asked for cybersecurity advice.
  • 90% of respondents agree that integration between core applications is critical to their business. It helps them streamline their processes, reduce duplication of efforts and automate repetitive tasks.

“This report drives home the importance of automation and integration to make MSPs more productive, efficient and profitable,” said Mike Puglia, chief strategy officer and general manager of security products, Kaseya. “Cybersecurity will continue to be a pressing issue, and MSPs will need to be up-to-speed on their security offerings to keep pace with SMB demand.”

Poor integration remains a core problem.

Lack of integration between solutions continues to hinder daily operations and productivity. In the survey, 39% of respondents reported that the biggest obstacle to business growth is the inability of technicians to maximize software usage. About 63% of executives surveyed said that integration enabled them to take on more clients and expand their business, with 54% saying fewer technicians were needed to manage the workload. Almost half, 49% of the executives, also said integration helped them cut costs. Not surprising, about 60% of both executives and technicians surveyed are dissatisfied or neutral when it comes to work-life balance. Managing everyday mundane tasks causes them to struggle with getting their workload under control and even end up experiencing acute burnout. This can be alleviated by automating some of those mundane tasks.

Cybersecurity drives growth.

The top five services that respondents intend to offer in 2023 fall under the cybersecurity umbrella, covering identity and access management, security awareness training and Dark Web monitoring. With cybercrime exploding, the percentage of respondents who back up their customers’ SaaS applications, such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or Salesforce, increased to 83% from 78% in 2022. About one-third, 32% of the respondents, evaluate their threat landscape monthly and 35% evaluate quarterly, while only 11% do so annually, and a mere 1% never do so. Technician respondents said that enhanced security services recorded the most growth in the last 12 months; executives reported it as second place. (For executives, subscription-based managed services took the top spot, with business continuity and disaster recovery (BCDR) service featured among the top four service categories.)

MSPs anticipate these challenges.

The primary challenges MSPs anticipate are acquiring more customers as the MSP space intensifies (35% of executives) and dealing with advanced and sophisticated security threats (21% percent of technicians). Supply chain issues are leveling off – the percentage of respondents who said supply chain impact is significant dropped from 35% to 28% in 2023.

Let’s talk about break-fix, co-managed IT and M&A.

More than half of the technician respondents, 51%, reported break-fix as their most time-consuming activity. However, it is only the third most lucrative revenue stream according to executive respondents (39%). Subscription-based managed services is the top revenue generator according to 68% of executive participants and the second most time-consuming activity according to 43% of technicians. When it comes to what drives the biggest gain the break-fix model, executives cited hardware problems, while technicians said for them, it’s access control.

About a third, 34%, of the respondents said they get between 1 and 25 percent of their revenue from co-managed IT services. Another 29% said they get between 26 and 50 percent of their revenue from it.

About 51% of the respondents are keen to participate in some form of M&A activity. Of this group, about 14% said it is their primary growth strategy. Last year, only 36% of the respondents were bullish on it.

Methodology

This survey sought viewpoints from both MSP executives and MSP technicians. Of the respondents, executives comprised 37% of the pool while technicians made up the remaining 63%. MSP owners, partners, vice presidents and directors came under the executive group while the rest were grouped as technicians.
